Spreewelten in the UNESCO Spreewald blends fun and relaxation, offering a new hotel by dan pearlman with spacious apartments for families, cyclists, and wellness guests—just one hour from Berlin.
Untouched, wild nature, meandering waterways, and a rich cultural heritage characterize the Spreewald. Located in the heart of this UNESCO biosphere reserve and just one hour from Berlin, you’ll find the Spreewelten. The expansion of the destination with a hotel is part of our strategic future development of the existing adventure pool and sauna village. The aim is to make Spreewelten more attractive in the long term for a variety of target groups by creating a special balance between fun and relaxation. Responsible for the design planning, the architectural team led by Kieran Stanley, CEO of dan pearlman Erlebnisarchitektur GmbH, developed a master plan, which dan pearlman oversaw through to the final reopening. Thanks to the holistic design concept, a unique and identity-defining apartment complex was created as a fitting extension of the “Spreewelten” pool – a place to relax, experience, and enjoy. Spacious apartments welcome families, cyclists, and wellness guests alike.
Overnight Stays in a Rustic-Modern Atmosphere
As one of Germany’s top leisure destinations, the addition of the apartment complex offers the opportunity to extend a visit to the adventure pool with flexible overnight stays. The novelty: visitors can now enjoy rustic-modern overnight accommodation in the Spreewald. Far from everyday stress, the focus here is on slowing down and enjoying a perfect day or holiday.
Architecture Inspired by the Three-Sided Courtyard
While the adventure pool emphasizes the natural environment of the Spreewald, the new hotel complex takes its architectural inspiration from the region’s traditional three-sided farmyards. Natural materials, calm colors, and clean lines give the 50 apartments a cozy yet modern feel. The surrounding landscape has been consciously incorporated into the overall concept. Traditional elements, sounds, and garden arrangements of the Spreewald influence the design approach and are reinterpreted in a contemporary way.
Thematic Connection to the Adventure Pool
Elements from the penguin story, a key theme of the adventure pool, continue into the lobby, bar, and family apartments of the hotel. The distinctive charm of the Spreewelten is reflected in the rooms and public spaces of the complex. The apartments adopt the traditional stylistic elements of Spreewald living spaces and reinterpret them in a modern way. The warm and cozy character is preserved through the use of natural colors and materials.
Traditional Elements Reimagined
The typical Spreewald alcoves – sleeping niches – are suitably translated into the living spaces. Walls, ceilings, and floors are kept understated in design, allowing the furnishing elements to stand out. The alcoves, which appear both in the glass façade and inside the rooms, act as a recurring design motif framing a relaxing stay in the Spreewelten. In Type A apartments, the separate sleeping areas for children are themed as penguin caves. Walls and ceilings are decorated with varying episodes from the penguin story, creating a 360-degree sleeping panorama – a true highlight for children. As part of the Spreewelten, the apartment complex serves as the perfect base for exploring the Spreewald.
