We designed the new giant panda enclosure for the Everland ResortMarch 9, 2016
It was a great compliment for us when we were commissioned by Everland Resort in South Korea in 2014 to design the new panda enclosure. Pandas are threatened with extinction, worldwide there are only 1,864 animals left, and they are a rarity in zoos. Outside China, a total of 48 giant pandas are kept in 13 other countries around the world.
The 7000-square-meter themed area opened this spring just in time for the 40th anniversary of the theme park.
We can’t reveal all the highlights before the opening in April, but this much we can: with Panda World we’ve designed an enchanted facility rich in history, which pandas Ai Bao and Le Bao have been exploring for the past several days. Last Thursday, following an eventful trip that began in the Chinese province of Sichuan, the pair of pandas moved into their new home. We will release more information on the zoological and architectural challenges and the one-of-its-kind visitor experience as soon as both pandas have settled in and Panda World is opened.
