dan pearlman at the Festival for Architecture and Urban Alternatives. The Make City Festival was held in Berlin in June 2015. At more than 140 public talks, guided tours and numerous other events, architects, urban planners, artists and other interested participants gathered together for intensive discussions on how to optimize urban resources. The main issues here were how we want to live in Berlin in future years and how we can combine what currently exists with new ideas for use and, in particular, what we should be doing differently. Three themes provided the framework: the urban common good, examining the effects of public involvement and new forms of living and working. dan pearlman responded to this by organizing the “Create-Make-Sell” panel addressing how production sites can be combined with alternative cultures in inner-urban areas.
Moderated by Ares Kalandidis (urban planner, founder and CEO of Inpolis), dan pearlman’s panel presentation examined the question “How are convertible core urban spaces created from non-places?” Alongside dan pearlman’s Kieran Stanley, Volker Katschinski and Thorsten Kadel, panel participants also included Dimitri Hegemann, founder of the legendary club Tresor, Christoph Hoffmann, co-founder of the 25Hours Hotel, and Markus Kather, geographer and COBRA project director. Make City curator Francesca Ferguson also took part in the panel discussion. More of the exciting roundtable that was held on 26 June, 2015 at the Czech Centre in Berlin can be seen on video.
